Ferguson spotted in DFB Pokal final
Manchester United manager Sir AlexFerguson and assistant Mike Phelan
were notable spectators at Saturday's German Cup final.
United have been linked with Japanmidfielder Shinji Kagawa recently,
with quotes coming out of the 23-year-old's homeland suggesting he was
about to leave Borussia Dortmund for Old Trafford.
Kagawa certainly did himself no harm this evening, scoring the opener
as Dortmund cruised to victory over Bayern Munich to complete the
German domestic double.
The player has opted not to sign a new contract with his current club
and has said he would make a decision about his future after tonight's
game.
Ferguson's presence - less than 24 hours before his own side will try
to defy overwhelming odds and retain their Premier League crown - does
seem significant.
The Red Devils chief has been underpressure to bolster his midfield
for some considerable time now and missed out on Samir Nasri last
summer when he was outbid by Manchester City.
Kagawa would appear to be the perfect solution, having proved his
worth during two outstanding seasons in the Bundesliga.
His age also fits the United profile ofbuying young players who are
still to reach their peak.
After the game, Kagawa said: "For sure Manchester is a great club, but
what the future holds I do not knowyet."
